Insider: UCF's Taylor Back to Rockets
In a deal that was originally reported by Hoopsworld?s Alex Kennedy, former UCF star Jermaine Taylor is headed back to the Houston Rockets.? Taylor began his NBA tenure in Houston before being traded early last season to Sacramento.
For his career, the third year guard has averaged 5.4 points in 65 career games played.? Taylor told me via text that he is boarding a flight for Houston in a few hours and is very excited for his return.
?I never wanted to leave but I wasn?t playing when I was there and that is what was most important to me,? said Taylor.? ?Now I have a great opportunity to get a lot of minutes, show my talent, and show people why Houston paid as much as they did to get my rights coming out of UCF.? I?ve always felt Houston was the best place for me and now I see the staff feels the same way bringing me back.?
He heads to a Rockets team that has recently been in the news.? They were the third team involved in the Chris Paul trade to the Lakers that was blocked by the NBA.
Shooting guard Kevin Martin was supposed to be involved in that deal.? Currently, Houston has Martin and Courtney Lee on the roster as scoring guards, but a move could still be imminent that would open up major playing time for Taylor.
He will also be playing under a different head coach than he did during his first go-around. ?Kevin McHale was hired in the offseason to replace Rick Adelman.
Taylor was originally drafted in 2009 by the Washington Wizards and traded on draft night to the Rockets.? He is the Knights all-time leading scorer in the Division 1 era.
UCF fans in Orlando ?looking forward to seeing Taylor in action will not have to wait long. ?The Magic open their home schedule on December 26th against Houston.
