The Knights improved to 13-5 after defeating Rice 78-67 Wednesday night. Rice put up a fight throughout the game but fell short in the second half.
The Owls successfully limited Keith Clanton to three points, 10 boards and five assists. Even though Clanton, arguably the best player on the Knight’s roster was limited they found a way to win.
Clanton’s limitations during Wednesday’s game opened the door for other players to step up. Sophomore Calvin Newell shot 5-for-8 from deep and produced a career high of 24 points. Tristan Spurlock contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds (career best).
Up next the Knights will host SMU on Saturday at 4 p.m.
