Insider: Ted Roof Leaves UCF for Penn State

Ted Roof is leaving UCF after 33 days to take over as Penn States defensive coordinator. Roof confirmed he leaving UCF via text to ESPN.com late Monday night. UCF Head Coach George OLearyhired Roof as his new defensive coordinator onDecember 8.

Speculation of Roof leaving UCF for Penn Statestarted over the weekend once Penn State hired Bill O'Brien. O'Brien and Roof are close friends having worked together on OLearys staff at Georgia Tech and also worked together atDuke where Roof was the head coach and O'Brien was the offensive coordinator from 2005-2006.

OBrien also was rumored to be targeting UCF offensive line coach Brent Key, who played at Georgia Tech while OBrien was on the staff. However, Keyis expected to stay at UCF.

Where does UCF go from here? O'Leary will have to make a move quickly with National Signing Daytaking place onFebruary 1.
