Insider: Tashon Whitehurst Flips To USF
Gainesville linebacker Tashon Whitehurst, who committed to Syracuse over the summer, decided to sign a letter of intent with USF, choosing over Syracuse and Rutgers.
Whitehurst becomes the fourth player who made a verbal commitment early on to play with the Orange that will not be in their 2012 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-3, 190 pound linebacker posted 337 tackles, 11 sacks, three interceptions and five forced fumbles over his three years at Gainesville. In Whitehurst?s senior season, he had 160 total tackles, 10 TFL, and 3.5 sacks. He notched 14 tackles and had an interception in the regional finals for the Hurricanes.
The three-star prospect was named a captain in his senior season and was also named to the first-team all-state selection as a senior.
Whitehurst now joins former Gainesville teammate Chris Bivins, who enrolled at USF this past spring.
