Magic Brass To Visit Dwight Howard
On Tuesday, Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins and General Manager Otis Smith will fly to California to visit with Dwight Howard.
Howard’s doctor has advised him not to travel while he rehabs after successful back surgery to repair a herniated disc.
“The intent is to check in, see how he’s doing, both from his rehab as well as his spirits, to see him in-person,” Martins told Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel .
Howard has been limited, but has had contact with teammates and members of the Magic front office, including Martins and Smith, while he’s been laid up.
“He can’t travel and he can’t do much,” Smith told Robbins . “His doctor’s orders and pretty much our orders are to get his back right. He can’t do anything for anybody at this point in time, so he has to get right.”
Are Patrick Ewing and Steve Clifford Candidates For The Charlotte Job?
One thing has been clear since Patrick Ewing arrived in Orlando in 2007: he wants to be a head coach.
However, Ewing hasn’t exactly proven himself and is far from current Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy’s right hand man.
Still, Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated doesn’t think that will stop Michael Jordan from giving Ewing a call to replace the recently departed Paul Silas.
Amick says Ewing’s phone “shouldn’t be ringing from the 704 area code anytime soon… but odds are it will be.”
Amick points out that Jordan flirted with giving Ewing the job back in December of 2010 before eventually choosing Silas to replaced Larry Brown in December of 2010.
Amick also reports Ewing isn’t the only Magic coach who Charlotte could be interested in.
Assistant Steve Clifford is “another name to remember as someone who could receive an interview.” Amick says if Jordan goes with Ewing, the two could even be a “package deal.”
Clifford also joined Van Gundy’s staff in 2007.
Pacers Even Series At One
The Indiana Pacers used a 25-5 third quarter run to take command of game 2, eventually defeating the Magic to even their first round series at one.
Glen Davis had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Magic while three Pacers – David West, George Hill and Danny Granger had 18 for Indiana.
