Insider: Morning Skate Update As Team Prepares For Florida
It was a quiet morning at the Tampa Bay Times Forum as about two-thirds of the Lightning took part in an optional morning skate.
Anders Lindback will get his third straight start in goal tonight. Lindback got his first career shutout against the Panthers last season. It was his only start against Florida.
Lightning forward Steven Stamkos was asked after the skate if he was surprised about the number of players that have scored in the early part of the season.
“I am not surprised,” Stamkos said. “I think guys were very excited to play this year and it is showing. We have had a favorable schedule with games on home ice where we played really well in the past, and we want to continue that trend. It’s nice to see our defense jumping into the rush and making big plays. That’s why the scoring is being spread out and that is why we are winning games. We have got a whole group of guys that are contributing and when you look at the winning teams, that usually is what the case is.”
Lightning head coach Guy Boucher said the team is doing good things, but the good things need to become habit.
“The reality is right now we are doing good things, but we are not good yet. We are going to be good when those good things become habit,” Boucher said. “Everything has to be a habbit, and I think tonight is a great opportunity to get another 60 minutes of what we want to do. We did it last game for the first time this season and it translated to only five scoring chances against and that’s what matters to me. I know everyone is talking about we are first offensively in the league, and we are fourth on the power play. Right now we are 12th in goals against, and I want to get that to be better. Our face offs are good, we are 6th, but we can do better. We want less penalties, and we want to continue to have less turnovers at the other teams blue line to continue being consistent in our momentum.”Insider: Morning Skate Update As Team Prepares For Florida by Mike Corcoran
