Insider: Lightning Opening Night Live Updates
The Panthers get the two goal lead back when Stephen Weiss is left all alone in the slot. The forwards did a bad job back checking on the play, leaving Weiss WIDE open in the slot to beat Roloson. The Lightning have a lot of work to do defensively.
Lightning get back within range once again with a bullet from Steven Stamkos. The play was set up on a beautiful cross ice pass from Matt Gilroy who found Stamkos in the left circle. Marc Andre Bergeron with the second assist, giving him three points on the night.
Less than a minute into the third, Kris Versteeg makes the Lightning pay on the power play. The penalty kill has not been good at all tonight. The Lightning need to find an answer for that one quickly if they want to get back in this game.
The Lightning got some of the momentum back and the crowd back into it with a goal from Vincent Lecavalier to get the game back to 4-3. For the Bolts, it was a much needed infusion of energy at a key juncture of the game. Lets see if they can build on it in the third.
Former bolt Sean Bergenheim just gave the Panthers a two goal lead with a shorthanded goal. To this point, this has not been a good night for the Lightning. They look flat, they are not winning battles, and overall are just not in it right now. The crowd that was so loud earlier is pretty much dead at this point.
Into the second period, The Lightning once again give up the lead while shorthanded with Marty St. Louis in the box for tripping. This is not a repeat, the penalty kill has not been good.
Stephen Weiss ties the game at two on a power play goal. The Lightning penalty kill has not looked particularly sharp or aggressive in the early going tonight.
Victor Hedman gives the Lightning their first lead of the night on a blast from the slot, but will now have to kill off a delay of game penalty bt Matt Gilroy. Overall, have to like the jump the team has in the early going.
After a fight between Ryan Malone and Erik Gudbranson, the Lightning get on the board when Teddy Purcell finds the back of the net on a tough angle shot. With 8:29 left in the first, the Lightning are heading back to the power play. Shots are 6-4 Lightning.
The Panthers go up 1-0 on a power play goal by Kopecky, it appears the puck deflected off of Eric Brewers stick in the slot.
Five minutes into the first period, both teams look a bit tentative. Lightning are out shooting the Panthers 3-1, and will have to kill off a penalty as Adam Hall goes off for crosschecking.
Good evening, Tampa Bay Lightning are currently going through player introductions right now. Game will get underway shortly with the Lightning looking to get back to their winning ways.
