To say Nathan Horton enjoys playing the Tampa Bay Lightning would be an understatement.
The Bruins forward has all but owned the Lightning over the course of his career, and that trend continued Thursday night at the Tampa Bay Times forum as the Bruins defeated the Lightning 4-2.
The Bruins got off to a quick start when Horton found a rebound in the left circle and scored into a wide open net. It would not be the last time Horton would be heard from on the night, as has come to be the case any time Horton plays the Lightning. The Bruins would take a 2-0 less than three minutes later when Patrice Bergeron beat Anders Lindback, who appeared to be caught deep in his net on the play.
The Lightning would answer though when Steven Stamkos took a pass from Teddy Purcell and beat Tuukka Rask from the slot with Cory Conacher applying the screen in front. Replays were in inconclusive if Conacher got a piece of the original shot, but it was close.
Conacher would eventually get on the score sheet however when Purcell found him on the left wing and he beat Rask to tie the game. For Conacher, it was his 6th goal of the year.
From there, it would be all Boston. The Bruins took a 3-2 lead on a Brad Marchand goal midway through the second period. For Marchand it was his 9th goal of the season. ‘
The Bruins would add a fourth goal early in the third period when Nathan Horton added his second goal of the game. Horton, over his career, has collected 46 points in 45 games, making him one of the more prolific goal scorers against the Lightning.
“Our players definitely competed today, although this was probably the most intense game of the year by far,” Lightning head coach Guy Boucher said. “That’s a great team out there, they have depth in all positions and that is why they have only lost two games. They are great on the road and they are great at home.”Insider: Lightning Fall To Bruins 4-2 by Mike Corcoran
