Insider: Hack-a-Howard strategy fails
The Hack-a-Howard strategy didn’t work for the Magic this time. The Magic fell to the Lakers 106-97.
Dwight Howard made 25 out of 39 free throws and ended up with 39 points Tuesday night. The Hack-a-Howard strategy worked for the Magic back in December when Howard made 9-of-21 free throws. Howard currently holds a 47.8 free throw line percentage.
After the game, Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni said, ” I hate it [intentional fouls] for the fans. They can come to practice for free and watch them shoot 40, 50 fouls. They don’t even have to pay for tickets. I’ll invite them all.”
Veteran Jameer Nelson led Orlando with 21 points and seven assists. Nelson is the only active Magic player who played along side Dwight Howard.
Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis and Hedo Turkoglu both played along side Howard but will be inactive for the game. Big Baby is recovering from a broken left foot and Tukoglu is currently serving a 20 game suspension after violating the NBA’s Anti-Drug Program after testing positive for methenolone.
As expected the fans booed Dwight Howard as he entered the court, during the player introduction and every time he had the ball.
