Insider: Dwight Howard returns to Orlando
Dwight Howard is back in Orlando for the first time in almost a year.
The Orlando community and Magic fans are well aware of Dwight Howard after the all the attention he created last season. Howard has continued to create headlines while playing for the Lakers.
Just last week he received a lot of attention after sitting down with a reporter from the L.A. CBS affiliate and saying:
“And I always tell people: Hey, my team in Orlando was a team full of people who nobody wanted, and I was the leader and I led that team with a smile on my face.”
Howard’s comment has caused some backlash from his former teammates such as J.J. Redick, Glen Davis and Jameer Nelson.
“I’m not surprised by it,” Redick told ESPNLosAngeles.com. ”I would be more surprised when Dwight starts taking responsibility. That would be the most negative thing I can say, but that’s the truth. You can’t take all the credit and not accept any of the blame.”
After the backlash from his former teammates, Howard came out and said,
“I would never say anything disrespectful to those guys and I think a lot of people took that and ran with it, twisted it into a negative thing. I love those guys.”
Howard’s departure was a catalyst for Orlando to enter into rebuilding mode. Jameer Nelson will be the only active Magic player that played with Howard last year. Glen Davis is out with a broken left foot and Hedo Turkoglu is serving a 20 game suspension for violating the NBA’s Anti-Drug Program after testing positive for methenolone.
