Hurricanes Scott to San Antonio Spurs For Summer
“Today Durand Scott was picked up by the Spurs as a free agent,” said Miami Coach Jim Larrañaga. “This is the perfect team for him because they will love his defensive toughness. The Spurs are the best team in the NBA at finding a diamond in the rough. Durand has all the necessary tools to make it in the NBA. Dreams do come true at Miami.”
The 2013 ACC Defensive Player of the Year and two-time ACC All-Tournament First Team player scored 1,650 points at The U, the eighth-most in school history, and he holds the record for most minutes, games started and games played. For his career, he averaged 12.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 32.1 minutes in 132 total games played, and connected on 45.1 percent (580-of-1285) of his shots from the field, 33.8 percent (98-of-290) from long range and 77.3 percent (392-of-507) at the line. He earned All-ACC Honorable Mention two seasons and was on the 2010 ACC All-Rookie Team.
Scott helped the Canes to the 2013 ACC regular season title and ACC tournament title, both firsts for the program. He played a major role in UM earning a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament and making a run into the Sweet 16. Following the 2012-13 campaign, he played in the Portsmouth Invitational.
