Home Run Derby Notes: Giancarlo Stanton Will Participate
Giancarlo Stanton To Participate In First Home Run Derby
Baseball fans dreamed about it, and Troy Tulowitzki made it a reality: Giancarlo Stanton has agreed to participate in this year's Home Run Derby, the Rockies shortstop said Saturday.
Tulowitzki was named captain of the National League's Home Run Derby team last Monday, and he named Stanton as one of his top choices for the squad right away. In the time since, Tulowitzki said he's reached out the Marlins slugger.
According to MLB.com, Stanton has said he's on board.
"I think Stanton's one guy for sure that's going to participate," Tulowitzki said. "I think all the fans, that's who everybody's talking about, his humongous power. I think everybody's excited to see him. He's one guy I've reached out to, and he's going to do it."
Tulowitzki and Stanton would fill two spots on the National League's five-man team in the new format for the Home Run Derby. Tulowitzki said he hasn't decided on any other participants, and though he's exchanged some phone calls and text messages with candidates, he didn't offer up any extra names.
