Heat's Allen Designs Shirt For Black History Month
MIAMI (AP) Ray Allen will be in Atlanta on Monday, and the significance is not lost on the Miami Heat guard.
Atlanta is the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr., and the Heat will play there on the holiday celebrating the civil rights leader. And this year, Allen is trying to leave his mark on not just that day, but February's designation as Black History Month as well.
Allen collaborated with the league to design a shooting shirt that NBA teams will wear at times next month, featuring the likeness of King, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman and Bill Russell.
Allen says he hopes the celebrations will not just be "about the black players in the league. It's about where we've come, what we've fought for, equality among all races, ethnicities, cultures, groups."
