Hand Blood Keeps Howard Out Of Wings Lineup

Howard_2013Jimmy Howard wont be in goal for Detroit when the Wings take on the Blue Jackets on Tuesday night, according to Columbus play-by-play man Jeff Rimer.

Howard, 29, suffered a hand injury over the weekend and was held out of Mondays matinee affair over Boston a 3-2 decision won by backup Jonas Gustavsson.

As for the severity of Howards injury, heres Dr. Mike Babcock with the explanation.

Hes got some blood in the hand and theyre trying to keep (the swelling) down, but maybe its swollen too much now, so I dont know whats going to happen tomorrow. Well monitor the situation.

Assuming team physicians are able to solve the case of hand blood, Howard could return to the lineup as early as Thursday, when the Wings take on the Avs in Colorado.
