Geno Smith: A Top-5 QB In The Making?
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith made headlines this off-season by declaring that he will eventually become one of the top-five passers in the NFL. The second-year signal caller experienced an erratic rookie season in which he led the AFC in interceptions with 21. As a result, the Jets signed former Pro-Bowler Mike Vick, seemingly as an insurance policy in case Smith’s struggles continue in 2014.
While it is anybody’s guess as to how Smith will perform this year, here is footage of Geno Smith from his 2013 pro day workout on the campus of West Virginia University. For whatever it is worth, Smith looked the part of a top-five NFL quarterback during this workout. Smith was on target throughout this entire session as fellow 2013 NFL draft picks Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey were also participating in these drills. Representatives from 28 NFL franchises were confirmed to be in attendance for this workout.
Although this type of performance is certainly encouraging, it remains to be seen if Geno Smith can translate this type of accuracy and timing to the NFL game.
