Florida has hired Kurt Roper as their new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Roper currently coaches at Duke and his last game with the 24th ranked Blue Devils will be Tuesday’s Chick-Fil-A Bowl against No.21 Texas A&M.
Roper will be the third offensive coordinator in four seasons under head coach Will Muschamp. Contract details are not yet known but the Gainesville Sun has reported that he will make $600,000 a year.
The Gators offense has struggled in all three of Muschamp’s seasons so this new hire is highly anticipated. Roper has been the OC at Duke since 2008 and has also served as the assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach. He was a finalist for the Broyles Award, which recognizes the top assistant coach in the nation.
Roper says that he’s looking forward to working with the Gators. He says that one of the biggest things to learn is the strengths of the quarterbacks and the offensive line. He says that after finding those strengths, you can start figuring out how to make something happen with the football.
Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe said that Roper’s coaching style is intense, with tempo and quality of repetition.Gators Hire New OC from Duke by Amanda Borges
