Gators get upset by Charleston
OK, the University of Florida was hosting the regional and no one really thought that the College of Charleston had a chance to beat the mighty Gators. Clearly, Charleston did not get the memo and they handed Florida a stunning 3-2 loss in front of the home crowd in Gainesville.
The game was delayed for three and a half hours by rain and ended about 1 am this morning.
Florida will meet North Carolina in an elimination game today at 1pm while Charleston will play Long Beach State in the winners bracket in the nightcap of the Saturday doubleader.
Eric Bauer (6-2) got the victory in relief, and Michael Hanzlik retired the Gators in order on 10 pitches in the ninth for his 15th save.
Brandon Murray hit an RBI double and Nick Pappas had a two-run double two batters later against Florida starter Logan Shore (7-4). Shore and reliever Justin Shafer held the Cougars (42-17) scoreless the rest of the game, but the Gators (40-22) wasted two bases-loaded opportunities and went down in order in the last three innings after cutting the deficit to one. But the Gators, who has had 15 come from behind to wins this season could not make it 16 and now they must win today or the 2014 season ends.
