Gators True Freshman Quarterback Will Grier Making Headlines

Florida Gators quarterback Will Grier may only be a true freshman, but hes already a household name for Gator fans.

Grier, a four-star and elite eleven recruit out of North Carolina headlined UFs 2014 recruiting class after racking up 4,989 passing yards and 77 touchdown passes in his senior year. During his career he has totaled 14,565 yards and 195 touchdown passes the second in North Carolina state history behind former Gators quarterback Chris Leak, according to GatorZone.com. He's also had some pretty impressive games at Davidson Day High School. Will, the son of East Carolina standout quarterback and Davidson Day Football coach, Chad Grier once threw for 837 yards and 10 touchdowns in a single state playoff game which has led him to become hungry for more and a man on a mission.

The 6-foot-3, 181 pounder wasted no time chasing his dream. Grier officially committed to the University of Florida on December 19, 2012, making him the third commitment for the Gators 2014 class. He enrolled early in January of 2014 and immediately made a big debut in Gainesville. During spring camp, Grier split reps with sophomore Skylar Mornhinweg and didnt disappoint. The 2014 U.S. Army All-American showed he has outstanding arm strength and great mobility. He also appears to have all the dual-threat abilities made for new offensive coordinator Kurt Ropers up-tempo, shot-gun spread offense.

Redshirt junior Jeff Driskelfrom Oviedo, Florida is the unquestioned starter to open the season but with the teams history of injuries, Florida must prepare their backups which means the competition is brewing. Grier and Mornhinweg will compete to be Driskels back-up as well as Treon Harris.

Its no secret that Griers potential has Florida fans dreaming of another Tim Tebow era. After all, hes proved hes extremely talented... just take a look at this video where he catches a football while doing a standing backflip during a workout with freshman tide end DeAndre Goolsby that went viral and was picked up by the NFL and ESPN. While this impressive stunt may not necessarily help him climb up the depth chart, theres no doubt that Grier has a very bright future ahead of him and will continue to get Florida fans fired up.

Here's a look at some highlights from Grier's senior year:
