Florida State will play host to Georgetown at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Donald L. Tucker Center in the second round of the 2014 NIT.  Each of the game times and host sites were set following the conclusion of the first round of the tournament on Wednesday night by the NIT committee.  As the No. 1 seed in their quadrant of the 32-team tournament, the Seminoles are the designated host for the second round game on their home court.

Florida State athletics has partnered with Star Metro to provide the NIT Express free of charge to Florida State students which will drop them off and pick them up at the student entrance to the Tucker Center which allows them to avoid driving on campus and paying to park at the game.  The bus route will run two (2) hours prior to the game until one (1) hour after the game.  The NIT Express will drop off fans on the Martin Luther King Boulevard Loop, located on the east side of the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Florida State defeated Florida Gulf Coast, 58-53, in Tallahassee while No. 4-seeded Georgetown defeated West Virginia, 77-65, in Washington, D.C. to set up the second round meeting between the Seminoles and the Hoyas.  The winner of Monday’s game between Florida State and Georgetown will meet the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 2-seeded Georgia and No. 3-seeded Louisiana Tech with the winner of that game advancing to the NIT semifinals in Madison Square Garden in New York City.  Should Florida State advance past Georgetown, the Seminoles would host the quarterfinal game in Tallahassee on March 26.

Florida State holds a 3-0 series advantage against Georgetown and will meet the Hoyas for the first time since a 78-68 win in the 1992 NCAA Tournament – a win that advanced the Seminoles to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.  The Seminoles and the Hoyas have also previously met during the 1969 and 1973 seasons.

Florida State enters Monday’s game against Georgetown with a 20-13 record and is playing in the postseason for the ninth consecutive season under head coach Leonard Hamilton.  The Seminoles’ victory over Florida Gulf Coast gave them 20 wins for the fifth time in the last six seasons and in seven of Hamilton’s 12 years at Florida State.

Georgetown is 18-14 after their victory over West Virginia on Tuesday.  During the regular season, the Hoyas defeated No. 7 Michigan State, 64-60, on February 1 and defeated No. 10 VCU on November 24 in the third round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
