By 4:30 pm Saturday James Franklin will be the new head coach at Penn State.

The press release I just got from Penn State says major announcement to be made at 4:15 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon in the Beaver Stadium media room.

Penn State will introduce James Franklin as their new head coach replacing Bill O’Brien.

You do not have a press conference to announce you did not get the head coach you wanted.

We at Sports Talk Florida told you earlier this week that James Franklin is leaving Vanderbuilt to take over as the head coach at Penn State,” landing his dream job.”

He will replace O’Brien who is now the head coach of the Houston Texans. So why the hold up?

Penn State have a hand shake deal with Franklin now the paperwork needs to be done.

The process takes a little more time and it has to do with state of Pennsylvania university system. Franklin can’t be the coach until several technicalities are addressed. A legal advertisement must be run for the position today and it did. Then the compensation committee, a small subset of the PSU board of trustees, must review the contract on Saturday morning.

At 9 a.m. of the Board of Trustees compensation committee will review and give the go ahead on Franklin’s contract. This is a formailty that Joe Paterno and more recently Bill O’Brein went through before they were announced as Penn State head coaches.

Franklin is in Nashville and he will is expected to meet tonight with Vanderbuilt  athletic director David Williams and tell him face – to -face that he is taking the Penn State job.  It is expected that Vandy will make one last pitch for Franklin to stay but Penn State is as we said before his dream job do not expect him to be pryed away from Happy Valley.

Franklin, a Pennsylvania guy who comes from the Philadelphia suburbs and went to college at East Stroudsburg, and started his coaching career in the Lehigh Valley area of the state at Kutztown University. So his PA roots run very, very deep.
