Most people who watched the Miami vs. Orlando game Wednesday night will tell you it was a great game. Both teams fought hard till the end and it was entertaining to watch.
Orlando was down by 20 points in the third quarter and made a tremendous effort and push for the win. In the final minute of the game Orlando was up by three points.
At that point Orlando is up by three points. Tobias Harris floats one in, Shane Battier draws a foul on Harris and the basket doesn’t count. This foul sends Tobias to the bench six fouls. If the basket did count the Magic would’ve extended their lead to five points but the foul was called and it didn’t count. From that point on the Magic failed to score and the Heat went on to score four points and won their 16th consecutive game by one point.
At the half Miami lead by 15, they came in the third and extend the lead to 20. At the point the Heat cooled down and the Magic heated up. Nik Vucevic brought a lot of momentum as he scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the third quarter alone. Jameer Nelson had six assists in the third quarter as well. Orlando outscored Miami 34-22 in that quarter and 22-20 in the fourth quarter.
One aspect of the game that fans complained about was the officiating. The Magic were called on 30 fouls while Miami had only 17 throughout the game. In the fourth quarter alone, the Magic were called on 10 fouls. For some fans found some of fouls questionable. For example, Maurice Harkless and LeBron James got tangled up and the foul was called against Harkless. When looking back at the tape James seemed to have same amount of fault as Harkless, but it was called agaisnt the 19-year old rookie and as a result he had to sit on the bench for the rest of the game. When the games go down to the wire late fouls are magnified.
LeBron James had zero fouls called against him while all the Magic players had at least one foul and three Magic players ended up fouling out.
The Orlando Magic roster is looking at the Miami game as a learning experience and will look to take positives out the game and reapply them in the remaining games of the season.
Glen Davis expressed his thoughts on the officiating via Twitter:
