UCF RB Latavius Murray Heads to Oakland

Former UCF running back Latavius Murray was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round, pick No. 161 overall.

Murray, who did not earn an invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine in February, created a name for himself with an impressive performance during UCF’s pro day. He ran a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, which would have ranked him third amongst running backs at the Combine.

The 6-foot-3, 222-pound running back finished with a team-high 1,106 rushing yards last season, while adding 15 touchdowns on the ground. Murray, a viable option in the passing game, also caught 27 in 2012 for 231 yards and four touchdowns.

With 2,424 career rushing yards, the Nedrow, N.Y. native ranks fifth all-time in program history, while his 37 rushing touchdowns is third-best at UCF.

Murray will have to battle for a position on the team, as the Raiders already had four running backs under contract prior to the draft. That includes Darren McFadden, who missed nine games last season due to injuries. On a positive note for Murray, McFadden’s name has been brought up in trade rumors with an upcoming expiring contracting.

According to Oakland Raiders Director of Media Relations, Zak Gilbert, there will be a press conference late Saturday night introducing Murray and the other Raiders draft picks.

This story will be updated with quotes following the press conference.
