ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Super Bowl XLVII is all set as the San Francisco 49ers will face the Baltimore Ravens Sunday, Feb. 3. UCF is guaranteed to have an alum earn a Super Bowl ring, and both players are very familiar with each other.

Two-time Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year Bruce Miller put on a memorable blocking performance for San Francisco in its come-from-behind 28-24 win at Atlanta in the NFC Championship Game. The former defensive end for the Knights now serves as the 49ers’ starting fullback, and paved the way for two important touchdown runs by Frank Gore in the second half.

Over in the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens stunned the home crowd when it went into New England and stopped the Patriots, 28-13. Jah Reid started the final seven games of the regular season on the offensive line for the Ravens but has since been placed on injured reserve. Reid was a member of the All-C-USA First Team in 2009 and 2010.

Both Miller and Reid lettered with UCF from 2007-10 and continuously faced off in the trenches during practices. Although Reid has not competed this postseason, both have played a key role in helping their teams reach the Super Bowl.

A total of 22 collegiate programs have at least one player on both rosters for the 49ers and the Ravens, including UCF. The Knights also are tied for 12th in the nation with the most players on Super Bowl rosters (including injured reserve, practice squad, etc.) based on both the Ravens and 49ers official websites on Jan. 20.

With Miller and Reid in this year’s Super Bowl, a total of nine Knights will have received a Super Bowl ring. That list includes: Asante Samuel (twice with New England), Michael Gruttadauria (St. Louis), Darcy Johnson (New York Giants), Cornell Green (Tampa Bay), Charles Lee (Tampa Bay), Atari Bigby (Green Bay), Michael Greco (Green Bay) and Josh Sitton (Green Bay).

UCF has now had 11 players reach the Super Bowl since the program’s inception in 1979. Shawn Jefferson was the first Knight to advance to the big game when he did so with the San Diego Chargers for Super Bowl XXIX (he also got there with the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI).
