Former Bucs LT Donald Penn Signing with the Raiders

Miami Dolphins v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After visits with Oakland and Washington, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Donald Penn is closing in on a deal with the Raiders.

The news was first reported for NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport and confirmed by Sports Talk Florida.

Penn spent nearly seven full seasons as a starter, but the new regime opted to release him after landing free agent Anthony Collins. He was scheduled to earn $6.75 in 2014.

Last season, Penn struggled in pass protection. According to Pro Football Focus, in the final six games, he allowed nine sacks.

He played in 112 games for the Buccaneers, including 108 consecutive starts and was named to the Pro Bowl as an alternate in 2011.

The Raiders were originally set to sign Rams offensive tackle/guard Rodger Saffold, but a failed physical voided the agreement and created an embarrassing situation after Oakland already parted ways with Jared Veldheer.

After addressing a number of key needs this free agency period, the Raiders appear well-positioned to draft a quarterback with the fifth overall selection in May’s NFL Draft.
