Florida State Wants to Play Football in Orlando

FSU Football Entrance

Florida State is looking into playing neutral-site games in Orlando and Atlanta.

The Seminoles are in talks to play in Orlando in 2016 and Atlanta in 2018, according to a report fromESPNs David Hale.

FSU athletic directorStan Wilcoxtold ESPN that the benefit of playing in those markets is that it places the Seminoles in the backyard of fertile recruiting territory while also making the football team accessible to those living outside of Tallahassee. FSU was considered to have the nations second most displaced fan base at the start of last season.

A potential holdup to playing a game in Central Florida and Atlanta would be if theAtlantic Coast Conferenceopts to go to a nine-game schedule, something that has recently been discussed.

From [Florida States] perspective, were at the point now that we would like to continue to be able to have as many quality home games as we can, potentially take one of those games on the road, Wilcox told ESPN. This year, were going to Dallas [to play Oklahoma State], and were looking at Orlando and other cities. Some of that can be jeopardized depending how the conference ends up.

Major renovations are being done to the stadium in downtown Orlando and are expected to be complete by the end of 2014.
