Florida State Football: Top 50 Players for 2014 (#45-41)

This is the second in a series of articles outlining Florida State football’s top 50 players for the 2014 season. The list is a compilation of rankings from Ryan Kelly (V89 Sports), Ariya Massoudi (V89 Sports), and myself.

Ruben Carter: Florida State#45 Ruben Carter

Position: OG
Year: Redshirt Junior
Ht/Wt: 6 feet 4 inches, 299 pounds
2013 Season: 11 appearances, 1 start

Carter was one of the key backups for FSU last season as a reserve along the offensive line. He made his first career start at right guard against Nevada in place of the injured Tre’ Jackson. Carter will provide valuable depth along the line again this season behind returning starters Jackson and Josue Matias. During spring practice Carter spent time working at center as well as guard and that versatility makes him a valuable member of the second team.

Ranking: Brandon (40), Ryan (31), Ariya (Unranked)

Wilson Bell Florida State#44 Wilson Bell

Position: OT
Year: Redshirt Freshman
Ht/Wt: 6 feet 4 inches, 306 pounds
2013 Season: Redshirted

Last season offensive line was one of the thinnest position groups on the team. Bell was one of the few reserve tackles on the team and he appeared in two games before suffering a knee injury that forced him to redshirt. He became a valuable member of the scout team following the injury and won the offensive scout team player award along with quarterback John Franklin III. FSU brings in a strong class of offensive lineman this year, but Bell’s experience will make him a valuable reserve tackle for the upcoming season.

Ranking: Brandon (46), Ryan (19), Ariya (Unranked)

Marquez White Florida State#43 Marquez White

Position: DB
Year: Sophomore
Ht/Wt: 6 feet, 168 pounds
2013 Season: 12 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 INT

A 4-star recruit out of high school, White spent time at wide receiver and defensive back last season before settling into the defensive back rotation at the end of the season. Even with the depth FSU has in the defensive back field, White was able to contribute as a true freshman. He is a very athletic player (demonstrated by his ability to play on both sides of the ball and point guard on the basketball team) and should be a key member of the rotation at corner next season.

Ranking: Brandon (42), Ryan (46), Ariya (37)

Demarcus Christmas Florida State#42 Demarcus Christmas

Position: DT
Year: Freshman
Ht/Wt: 6 feet 3 inches, 285 pounds
2013 Season: In high school

Christmas comes to Florida State as a 4-star recruit out of Manatee High School in Bradenton. He was rated the sixth best defensive tackle in country by Rivals.Com and is one of the most important members of FSU’s 2014 recruiting class. With the departure of Timmy Jernigan, Demonte McAllister, and Jacobbi McDaniel to the NFL, Christmas has a chance to contribute from day one. Head Coach Jimbo Fisher has praised him consistently since national signing day going so far as to say that Christmas could have been the top player in the entire country if the defensive tackle had attended more camps. Following spring practice the starting nose tackle position is still wide open. Look for Christmas to be one of the main competitors for the spot and a key contributor as a freshman.

Ranking: Brandon (39), Ryan (38), Ariya (46)

Ryan Green Florida State#41 Ryan Green

Position: RB
Year: Sophomore
Ht/Wt: 5 feet 10 inches, 195 pounds
2013 Season: 33 carries, 180 yards, one touchdown

As a true freshman last season Green’s carries were limited to late game situations when the Seminoles were ahead by a large margin. In his limited playing time Green showed flashes of the potential that made him 4-star recruit out of Catholic High School in St. Petersburg. Green’s greatest strength is his quickness which allows him to get around the edge for big gains. He is expected to compete for the number two running back position behind Karlos Williams, but he will face stiff competition from redshirt sophomore Mario Pender and freshman Dalvin Cook.
