Florida Clinging to Top 25 Spot after Loss to LSU

The Associated Press Top 25 for Week 8 has been released. The Florida Gators, following their disorienting 17-6 loss to LSU on Saturday, have fallen to No. 22.

Les Miles and the Tigers jumped four spots after their crucial victory over Florida on Saturday.

I’m surprised the performance of the offense didn’t scare a lot of voters out of keeping the Gators in the top 25. Tyler Murphy was 15 of 27 for 115 yards passing, and the team put together a total of 240 yards on offense. It was a bleak day in Baton Rouge, and Gators fans should be very happy they won’t have to deal with Missouri’s James Franklin next week after he separated his shoulder during his team’s upset victory over Georgia.

Speaking of Georgia, they dropped eight spots, tied for the most in a week full of upsets. Now No. 15, they’ll go on the road to take on unranked Vanderbilt next week. Stanford took the other huge fall, sinking to No. 13 after their 27-21 loss to Utah.

Meanwhile, the top four held pat with No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Ohio State leading the way. No. 5 Florida State is the newcomer to the top five, while LSU sneaked up four spots to No.6.
