Fernando Rodney Wanted To Stay In Tampa
Ex-Rays closer Fernando Rodney, now with the Seattle Mariners, made his way across the diamond and had a chat with Rays manager Joe Maddon before the Rays-Mariners game Monday night. He made it clear that if he had it his way, he’d never left the Rays. The way the Rays see it, he was seeking too much and never made an offer.
“I think they were going to sign me back, but then they said I was looking for too much money,” Rodney said, via the Tampa Bay Times. “I couldn’t control that. … They never put nothing on the table.”
He was asking anywhere from $14 million to $15 million from the Rays and eventually got what he wanted with the Mariners. For the Rays, Grant Balfour took Rodney’s place after he failed a physical with the Baltimore Orioles.Fernando Rodney Wanted To Stay In Tampa by Sports Talk Florida
