Fantasy Football – Brandon LaFell Should Have Fantastic Rest of Season
At the beginning of this season the Carolina Panthers were struggling, starting a weak 1-3, but have since improved their record dramatically at 8-3. A big reason for Carolinas recent success is their tenacious defense along with the depth at wide receiver. When Cam Newton possesses numerous weapons to deliver the football to it enables the young stud QB to be more dynamic and effective. Newton seems to have pretty solid chemistry with his receivers which will only cultivate into bigger and better things as they become more comfortable and familiar with one another.
One of the more reliable receivers on the Panthers roster is the 6-2, 210 pound Brandon LaFell. LaFell is currently third on the Carolina Panthers in receiving, but when given the opportunity he has absolutely come through for his team. With 40 receptions, 495 yards, and four touchdowns LaFell is only warming up this season. The 27-year-old LSU-product is currently on pace to post career high numbers in every major receiving category. LaFell is about to start making some noise, so now is the perfect time for owners to snag him off of the waiver-wire with the fantasy postseason right around the corner.
Although LaFell has only found the endzone four times this season, he continues to be consistently targeted by Newton. The four-year receiver has averaged seven targets per game over his last five outings. With an assortment of talent on offense, LaFell has still been involved quite a bit this season and he will only continue to improve throughout the remaining weeks leading to the fantasy playoffs. From his ability to create separation from the defense, to his work ethic and ball skills, LaFell is a great player to have on your roster during crunch time.
Many fantasy experts and websites find LaFell to be a questionable fantasy prospect due to the Carolina passing game. They say its difficult for Panthers offensive players to record stellar numbers week in and week out due to the perceived inconsistencies. However, I beg to differ. LaFell will have his shaky games here and there, but overall he has been a remarkably trustworthy player. With as many weapons as Carolina has, sometimes LaFell doesn’t receive the number of touches he deserves. As one of Cam Newtons favorite targets, you can expect Brandon LaFell to finish this season with purpose and put up stellar numbers for a thriving Carolina Panthers team.
