Falcons’ Sean Weatherspoon Ruptures Achilles, Will Miss 2014 Season
The Atlanta Falcons have been dealt a huge blow, already losing one of their top defensive players for the 2014. On Tuesday, the team announced that linebacker Sean Weatherspoon suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during a workout.
“During Sean’s run today with our medical staff, he suffered an injury,” head coach Mike Smith said in a statement issued by the Falcons.
“We sent Sean to the doctor for some additional testing and evaluation and unfortunately the results showed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon. Sean had been working extremely hard to get back on the field, but regrettably he will miss the entire 2014 season. He will have a procedure done in the near future and we expect him to make a full recovery.”
Weatherspoon spent most of 2013 recovering from a knee injury, but in 2012, he recorded a team-second-best 95 combined tackles and three sacks. In 2011, he finished with 115 tackles and four sacks.
