Evan Longoria AL Player Of the Week, Cory Wade Returns To Bulls
After playing 30 games in 31 days the Rays are enjoying a well deserved day off. Sticking with the well deserved theme Evan Longoria was named the AL Player of the Week after hitting .464 (13 for 38) with 8 of his 13 hits going for extra bases – three home runs and five doubles. He hit his 3rd career grand slam against the Blue Jays on Monday night and delivered the walk off homer on Saturday night to defeat the Padres 8-7 on Saturday night.

The Rays have signed Cory Wade and he will report to the Triple A Durham Bulls. He spent spring training with the Rays in 2011 and began the year with the Bulls appearing in 23 games (36.1 innings pitched) posting a 1.23 ERA. When he wasn’t added to the Rays roster he exercised an opt out clause in his contract and signed with the New York Yankees. He appeared in 40 games (39.2 IP) with the Yankees posting a 6-1 record with a 2.04 ERA but may best be remembered for serving up Dan Johnson‘s game tying homer in Game 162. After a disappointing 2012 season (1-1, 6.46 ERA) the Yankees released him. He signed on with the Chicago Cubs and reported to their Triple A affiliate Iowa Cubs where he appeared in 10 games (16 IP) and allowed 14R/ER. Wade will report to the Durham Bulls.
