UPDATE: Dumervil Released After He Agrees To Pay Cut
Posted By Wes Goldberg On March 15, 2013 @ 4:37 PM In News and Rumors,NFL | No Comments
A snag in the Dumervil agreement has led to his release, according to multiple reports.
Multiple sources have reported that Dumervil’s agent did not fax the signed contract by 2:00 p.m., in time for the Denver Broncos to dodge paying the “wack” deal, and cut the pass rusher to avoid doing so.
Just a half hour before the deadline, the Broncos and defensive end Elvis Dumervil have agreed on a salary reduction that will keep Dumervil on the team for the 2013 season. The sides needed to work out a deal on Friday in order for Dumervil to avoid the axe because of a $12 million salary that Denver boss John Elway said was “out of whack.”
You could guess that Denver will now resign Dumervil to the previously agreed upon deal, but that is not likely. The release cuts $4.87 million in dead money, as reported by Andrew Mason.
It looks like Dumervil is headed somewhere else. What a turn of events.
Now an interesting tweet, in regards to the situation:
Text I just received from NFL executive: “The Broncos just pulled the most Raider move ever.” Classic.
