El Tri Looks To Knock Off The USMNT In Friendly
Coming off a historic gold medal victory over Brazil in The Olympics, The Mexican National Team will look to build off that momentum when they take on The United States in a friendly at Azteca Stadium on Wednesday night.
None of the players from the Olympic squad were selected for the team as manager Jose de la Torre decided to give them a chance to rest. And after winning the gold, they certainly deserve it.
One players who was scheduled to participate in this friendly was Giovani Dos Santos but injury to his hamstring forced him to miss the gold medal match against Brazil and it will force him to miss this match against The US. Carlos Salcido and Oribe Peralta would have been selected as well but they too will get to rest.
Making the trip to Azteca will be the popular and talented Manchester United striker, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez. Three other players playing outside of Mexico will also join the squad including midfielder Andres Guardado (Valencia) who will look to get the attack going against The USMNT.
Mexico should be heavy favorites to win this game with their squad mostly being at full-strength and with Clint Dempsey missing the match for The US as he sorts out his club situation (Possible transfer to Liverpool). Playing at Azteca in front of 100,000 raucous fans always give El Tri an added advantage as The US has never won on Mexican soil.
Despite the “friendly” status of this match, Mexico does not want to have a disappointing result at home with the country only a few days removed from the Olympic squad bringing home their historic gold medal.
Not necessarily at full strength, Mexico still has plenty of fire power throughout the squad to come away with a victory.
