Ed Carpenter will run from the poll for the second year in a row at the INDY 500

For the second year in a row Ed Carpenter, in the car he not only drives, but also owns will be on the poll of the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500. He out dueled the super teams of Roger Penske, Chip Ganassi and Andretti Motorsports snagging the poll position.

Carpenter will be on the point for the race however, it was very, very close. How close?

The difference between the qualifying runs of  Carpenter and James Hinchcliffe was a tenth of a second, a blink in a 10-mile tour of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Hinchcliffe gave Carpenter a 230.839 mph to shoot for, and the “hometown boy. from, Indianapolis was up to the task.  Carpenter’s four-lap average was 231.067 mph, good enough to take the poll from Hinchcliffe.

Another big storyline came when NASCAR star Kurt Busch, who took an early morning flight Sunday from Charlotte after competing in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, will start from the 12th spot on the grid. Busch is trying to become the fourth driver to attempt the Indy 500-Coca-Cola 600 double.

Juan Pablo Montoya of Team Penske, is back as a regular on the IndyCar series. The 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner who spent the past seven years driving in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, also became the fastest Penske driver, even quicker than Verizon IndyCar Series points leader Will Power, who will start on the front row along with Carpenter and Hinchcliffe. Power ran 230.697 mph.

Montoya will starting from the 10th spot on the grid andthat puts him in a very good place for his return to Indianapolis.
