The 16th-ranked Gators could not confirm Murphy’s decision, saying nothing would be official until a player is admitted into school.
Murphy’s older brother, Erik, scored 1,052 points in four years at Florida.
Alex Murphy, a third-year sophomore who failed to crack Duke’s rotation in two-plus seasons, intends to enroll at Florida in January and will try to apply for a waiver from the NCAA to play next fall. Murphy redshirted as a freshman because of concussion issues.
