Billy Donovan and the University of Florida men’s basketball team are the beneficiaries of another top transfer candidate. This time it comes from the 6-foot-10, 245 pound center John Egbunu.
Egbunu will start classes in the summer at UF after transferring from the University of South Florida. In his freshman season he averaged seven points and six rebounds, earning him a spot on the American Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team.
Due to NCAA transfer regulations, Egbunu will have to sit out the entire 2014-15 season. He will however have three years of eligibility remaining when he resumes competition for the 2015-16 campaign.
As a freshman he played in all 32 games for the Bulls while starting 31 of them. He became USF’s all-time leader in rebounding for a freshman, grabbing 198 boards. His seven points a game ranked him fourth among freshmen and his six rebounds per contest were the most by any freshmen in the AAC.
Coming out of high school he was regarded as a four star recruit. ESPN ranked him No. 72 nationally and seventh overall in his position at center.Donovan, Gators Score Another Transfer by Jason Spain
