Penn Responds to Questions About His Weight
Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Donald Penn was not a happy camper this morning upon learning that both his weight and his work ethic?are being called into question.
In article posted yesterday titled,?"Five Bucs Who May Be On the 2013 Hot Seat," Pewter Report editor-in-chief Mark Cook writes:
"Penn loves playing for the Buccaneers and is one of those locker room guys that coaches love to have, but also has an occasional lazy streak and has failed to meet most of the weight clauses in his most recent contract, which also drives management crazy."
It was picked up by NFL.com's Around the League editor Gregg Rosenthal, which is likely where Penn saw the report, given his Twitter responses this morning, which included him lashing out at Cook.
It is no secret that Penn has struggled with weight throughout his career, having notable weight fluctuations between 30 and 40 pounds. It's why a clause was put into his contract requiring him to stay between 330-335 pounds and take part in regular weigh-ins.
In 2010, Penn hired a nutritionist and a trainer?to help him keep his weight down. It is unclear if he's still working with someone, but?he maintains that his weight is 330 and that he made all his required weigh-ins last year and this year.
Only Penn and those working with him know?if that statement is true or not,?although rumblings from multiple sources?have suggested Penn did not show up this year within his required weight range.
