Dolphins Are A “Helluva Team In The Making”
“We got a helluva team in the making,” Philbin said after casting aside his notes, which probably wouldn’t qualify as anything notable from some coaches — Salguero quips that Pete Carroll would say a Kia has a chance to be a helluva Cadillac — but it was something different from the reserved Philbin.
Especially heartening to Philbin and the rest of the brass in Miami has to be the way many of the team’s new faces played in Indy. Mike Wallace was the No. 1 receiver they wanted with nine catches for 115 yards and a touchdown and cornerback Brent Grimes had a key interception of Andrew Luck in the end zone. Linebacker Phillip Wheeler sacked Luck on the Colts’ final offensive play of the game and Dannell Ellerbe racked up tackles all afternoon. And running back Lamar Miller, who isn’t a new arrival, ran for 69 yards on 14 carries to give the team a rushing threat they lacked in the opening game.
There’s a lot of football yet to be played this season, but the Dolphins have done plenty in the first two weeks to back up their coach’s enthusiastic prediction for the future.
