Newark, NJ – The New Jersey Devils today re-signed center Adam Henrique to a new multi-year contract. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.
Henrique, 23, will enter his third NHL season after completing 2012-13 with 11 goals and five assists for 16 points and 16 penalty minutes in 42 games with New Jersey. He made his NHL season debut January 31 after beginning the year with Albany (AHL). The 6-0, 195-lb. center played in 16 AHL games until suffering a thumb injury November 25 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in Atlantic City, NJ. His two-season totals show 27 goals and 40 assists for 67 points and 23 penalty minutes in 117 games with New Jersey. Henrique was named to the 2011-12 NHL All-Rookie Team, while finishing third in the voting for the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league’s top rookie. His 51 points that season marked the fourth-highest rookie total in team history, while his 13 post-season points were a franchise record among first-year players. Born February 6, 1990 in Brantford, Ont., he was selected to participate as a rookie at the 2012 NHL All-Star Weekend. During the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he tied an NHL record with two series-clinching overtime goals. Henrique made his NHL debut April 11, 2011 vs. Boston.
Henrique was New Jersey’s fourth choice (3rd round), and 82nd overall selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He began his pro career with Albany in 2010-11, leading the team with 25 goals and tying the franchise’s rookie record with 50 points. Henrique played four seasons of junior hockey with Windsor (OHL), where he was a member of the Spitfires’ 2009 and 2010 Memorial Cup winning-teams. He participated in the 2010 OHL All-Star Game, and later that season was named the playoff MVP, leading the league with 20 goals. Henrique represented Silver Medal-winning Team Canada at the 2010 World Junior Championships.
