Derek Jeter to Retire After 2014
NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Jeter says 2014 season will be his ‘last year playing professional baseball’
Jeter posted a long letter on his Facebook account Wednesday saying that 2014 will be his last year of playing professional baseball.
The 39-year-old Yankees captain missed much of last season because of injuries.
Jeter told the Boston Globe that he is positive of his decision.
“I could not be more sure. I know it in my heart.”
Jeter will exit the Yankees just one season after longtime teammate Mariano Rivera.
A five-time World Series champion, Jeter has been the Yankees’ principal shortstop since entering the big leagues in 1995.
