David Price Trade Not So Definite Now
"We approach every trade as a balancing act, and this year is no different," executive vice president Andrew Friedman said Thursday, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. "Any trades we make, as well as trades we decide not to make, would alter the course of this season and future seasons."
The decision will come down to the offer from teams. Most likely, if a team interested in Price puts up a good offer, the Rays will deal. The possibility that the Rays make and/or advance in the playoffs with Price could also play a role in the team's decision.
Most recent speculations revolve around the Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals. Jon Heyman believes that the Chicago Cubs could also bid.
The Rays will most likely wait till the 4 p.m. trade deadline next Thursday before ultimately making the decision that has kept the nation's attention.
"It will be devastating to lose some guys here if it was to happen," starter Alex Cobb said. "You're in this environment, you see the mojo back, the magic."
