David Price Nears Return
David Price has been out of the Rays rotation since May 16 but last night he said he "put his best foot forward" and feels he is ?ready to return to the Rays rotation. When asked if he'll lobby manager Joe Maddon to be put back into the rotation ?Price said "What I did today, that will be my lobbying."
He had a very successful outing on Wednesday evening pitching for the High A ?Charlotte Stone Crabs working 5 innings of shutout baseball allowing two hits while striking out 8 and walking 1. In the south Florida heat and humidity Price made 72 pitches ?and 54 for strikes. Of the heat and humidity Price said,
"It was like an over in the bullpen warming up. It's humid out here. That takes a lot out of your. It's definetly more humid here than it is in the Trop. But I didn't feel tired whatsoever." - mlb.com
Now the decision as to whether Price is ready to start against the Houston Astros on the Rays next road trip which begins Monday. Joe Maddon hasn't ruled it out saying that it's not impossible but it depends on whether Price feels any soreness today.
If Price is deemed ready to make his next start look for the Rays to send Alex Colome back to Triple-A Durham after his start on Friday and either recall Josh Lueke from Durham or activate Brandon Gomes from the disabled list to pitch out of the bullpen until Price makes his next scheduled start.
