David Price Has Home Run Trot Ready As He Chases Esteban Yan

David Price Looks To Join Esteban Yan As Only Rays Pitchers With Homer

David Price has been on the mound to record the final out elevating the Rays to the 2008 World Series, he has appeared in a World Series, and he has won Cy Young Award under his belt. What he doesn’t have as of yet is a major league home run.

Price Looking

In fact in 26 career plate appearances he has just two singles and two walks to his credit. His first major league hit came on June 17, 2009 against Aaron Cook of the Colorado Rockies.  His only other career hit came on June 20, 2009 against Josh Johnson of the Miami Marlins.

Although Price’s name will adorn many categories in the Rays record book it is Esteban Yan whose name is atop the pitchers home run leaderboard.  As a matter of fact Yan is the only Rays pitcher to ever hit a major league home run. His dinger came on June 4, 2000 against Bobby Jones of the New York Mets. It was the second of  back-to-back homers with light hitting shortstop Felix Martinez connecting on the first.

Price takes the mound against Johnny Cueto and the Cincinnati Reds and hopes to get an opportunity to hit. “I’m looking more forward to pitching, but I’m definitely excited to hit,” said LHP David Price, tonight’s starter. “I’m excited to, but I think I know the reality of it.”

If David Price were to connect and launch a homer might we see a home run trot similar to his epic batting practice home run of a few seasons ago:
