David Price Fans Eight In Five Solid Innings, Rays Defeat Twins 7-1
David Price was making his second start this spring having his last start changed to a simulated game due to rain. The long delay of throwing off the mound affected him early. “I couldn’t slow myself down on the mound,” Price said. “Made some adjustments with Hick [Pitching Coach Jim Hickey] and Molina between innings and after that second inning I felt pretty good.”
He issued a two out walk followed by a single in the first inning which put runners on the corner but escaped damage by getting Trevor Plouffe to foul out to James Loney end the frame. Jason Kubel led off the second inning with a long home run to put the Twins on top 1-o. The Rays and Price had quite a second inning. Besides allowing the home run, Yunel Escobar made an error that allowed Jermaine Mitchell to reach. Price then balked him to second base and filled first by hitting Alex Presely with a pitch. The inning ended without further damage on a groundball to Evan Longoria.
Price finished his day by retiring 10 of the 11 hitters he faced. On the day he worked 5 innings allowing one earned run on three hits striking out eight and walking one. He was followed to the mound by Jake McGee, Brandon Gomes, Brad Boxberger, and Kirby Yates who each worked a scoreless inning.
