David Price, Drew Smyly Will Make Debuts Tuesday
Newly Acquired Southpaws To Debut Tuesday On The Road
The deal saw the Rays send David Price to the Tigers, the Tigers send Austin Jackson to the Mariners, and the Rays acquire the aforementioned Smyly and 18-year-old Willy Adames from the Tigers and Nick Franklin from the Mariners.
Jason Beck, MLB.com’s reporter for the Tigers, confirmed earlier this afternoon that Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has scheduled David Price to make his Tigers debut against the Yankees in New York on Tuesday.
The four-time All-Star, who turns 29 later in August, is 10-5 with a 3.66 ERA against New York for his career.
Drew Smyly, the other southpaw in the deal, will also make his debut with the Rays on Tuesday in Oakland. Oddly enough, Smyly made his major-league debut against the Rays on April 12, 2012 limiting them to just one run over four-plus innings.
Smyly owns a 6-9 record with a 3.93 ERA across 105 1/3 innings for Detroit this season. Though righties have hit him hard (.309/.366/.522) lefties have had a hard time against the 25-year-old (.176/.203/.269).David Price, Drew Smyly Will Make Debuts Tuesday by Matt Stein
