Bucs’ Dashon Goldson: ‘New Scheme, New Faces, New Attitude’
After undergoing foot surgery during the offseason, Tampa Bay Buccaneers free safety Dashon Goldson will make his preseason debut this weekend against the Miami Dolphins. It will be the first time he takes the field under new head coach Lovie Smith. Here, he talks about recovering from his injury, playing in a two-deep safety scheme, and how he’s convinced he can still lower his strike zone despite limited reps in camp.
“I’m a little anxious, but at the same time, I’m trying to control those emotions. First preseason [action], I’m excited about it,” said Goldson. “New scheme, new faces, and it’s a new attitude for the most part. So I’m excited to be out here and see what my role is.”
And he’s thrilled to have new guys and a new staff to rejuvenate the building.
“It’s exciting. Just being around the guys. Everybody has bought into the new program and what Coach [Smith] is implementing here, coming in with a new scheme, new attitude. I think everybody has bought it — just the way we practice, the way we carry ourselves off the field, and just going into the game.”
