Dashon Goldson More Concerned with Losses Than Possible Suspensions

UPDATE: NFL officials confirmed Monday afternoon that Goldson will not be suspended for the hit.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson dodged a bullet less than two weeks ago when he successfully appealed a one-game suspension for a hit on New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles. This time around, he might not be so lucky.
Goldson was flagged for unnecessary roughness Sunday for a hit on Jaron Brown after the Cardinals wide receiver made a 19-yard catch. When asked if he was worried that he’d get suspended for the hit, he said that he was more concerned with the team being 0-4.
“Worried? I’m not worried right now, to be honest with you. I’m a little frustrated about the loss right now,” said Goldson. “I’m sitting here trying to win the game for our football team. I don’t know what they expect me to do in a situation like that, wait for the guy to come down, trying to get the guy out of bounds before he touched the ground.”
The 10-yard penalty moved the Cardinals down to the Tampa Bay 9-yard line, setting up Jay Feely’s game-winning field goal.
“I’m just sitting here, playing hard, and trying to get a win for my football team. We’re 0-3…0-4 now. I’m trying to get a win. I don’t know what they want me to do in that situation,” said Goldson, who has already been fined $130,000 for two personal fouls this season.
He’s been working diligently on lowering his trajectory in his tackles and being mindful of late hits. You could see a concerted effort when he came charging toward Carson Palmer on a safety blitz Sunday but did not appear to touch him, instead putting his hands up and out in front of him.
“It’s just about being smart, man. That appeal…we got a chance to talk about the rules, and I’m trying to abide by them and not cost my team and this organization [a loss], and try not to be suspended at the same time.”
