Darrelle Revis Won’t Participate in OTAs

When the Bucs begin OTAs next Monday, the team will be without cornerback Darrelle Revis, who continues to rehabilitate his surgically-repaired knee.
Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Bucs are in no hurry to rush Revis back , and that he’ll not only miss OTAs but also the team’s mandatory three-day mini camp. Holder says the earliest Revis will return to action is training camp.
Tomorrow marks the seven-month anniversary of Revis’ ACL surgery. He was cleared to run without restriction a month ago by Dr. Russ Warren, who performed the surgery, and then by the Bucs medical staff prior to the Jets’ trade with Tampa Bay.
I’ve been told several times that the Bucs were completely comfortable with where Revis was in his rehabilitation and if that wasn’t the case, the trade wouldn’t have happened.
So is there reason to panic? I don’t believe so, especially if it allows guys like second-year cornerback Leonard Johnson and rookie Johnthan Banks more reps in practice.
It’s just disappointing we won’t get to see him in action right away, given the Bucs’ struggles in the secondary last year and all the expectations you get from signing a player of his caliber.
But with an investment like that, and the fact that with ACLs, one slip could easily create a setback, taking a cautious approach is the right thing to do.
