Only 5 days remain until Spring Training games begin and with that, the Miami Marlins are looking to fill one more spot.
The Marlins are supposedly not holding competitions for their position player spots. They signed several veterans who have guaranteed jobs but it’s the young players who are fighting for starting roles.
One position in particular is still up for grabs and that is center field.
Christian Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton are set in left and right field respectively and they both offer a depth in the outfield that will surely help Miami this season.
It is rumored that Marcell Ozuna holds the lead to get the outfield sport but he does have some weaknesses. Ozuna sometimes has poor plate discipline, but he should provide more power next year.
Jake Marisnick is recovering from a meniscus injury from last season, but he’s ranked as a better fit than Ozuna. Marisnick had similar strikeout and walk numbers to Ozuna in Double-A.
If the Marlins think that Marisnick needs more help in the minors, then the team will put Ozuna in the center field sport to start the year.
Nonetheless, Brian Boguseivic will be the backup center fielder.
