Countdown To Spring Training: Day 2
Only 2 days remain until spring training games begin and before the Marlins take the field, they have high hopes for a certain pitcher.
The Miami Marlins just want Carlos Marmol to keep pitching the way he has been.
Miami agreed to a $1.25 million, one-year deal with the 31-year-old right-hander this month after a strong showing at the Caribbean Series in Venezuela.
He pitched two perfect innings for the Dominican Republic with two strikeouts and no walks. He was clocked in the mid-90s mph.
Miami manager Mike Redmond says the organization’s scouting staff also watched Marmol in the winter league and was impressed. A change in Marmol’s mechanics may have helped.
Marmol’ had control trouble at times with the Chicago Cubs, his team from 2006-13.
